Gelomics Webinar: Electrowriting (cell-laden) natural-derived

Updated: Oct 17, 2023

Dr. Miguel Castilho. As an Assistant Professor of Biomaterials Design and Processing at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) with significant expertise in bioactive inorganic materials design and 3D printing, Dr. Castilho has made significant contributions in the field of biomedical engineering.

His talk is titled, "Electrowriting (cell-laden) natural-derived polymer fibers". This promising discussion will delve into the development of functional fiber replacements that can promote in vivo repair of musculoskeletal tissues. Dr. Castilho will explore the recent advancements in electrowriting 3D printing of natural polymers, showcasing examples of electrowritten microfiber scaffolds and discussing the functional properties of silk-based scaffolds.

This presentation will also delve into his latest research on the compatibility of this technique with patterning cell-laden fiber structures - a new biofabrication process that has the potential to revolutionize our understanding of how shear and elongation forces influence cell development.
