Position Overview: We are seeking a visionary Senior Engineer to lead, manage, and execute the development of AI-assisted laboratory devices. As an early-stage company, we value adaptability and cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will be expected to work across different areas, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to the dynamic needs of our growing organisation. This role requires a unique blend of expertise in mechatronic components and development of AI/ML algorithms based on experimental scientific datasets, coupled with a passion for contributing to a transformative field.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Development: Spearhead the design, development, and implementation of the AI-assisted laboratory devices, ensuring alignment with Gelomics' mission and quality standards.

  • Innovation in AI and Mechatronics: Develop cutting-edge AI and mechatronic technologies to create a device that stands at the intersection of biology and engineering.

  • Engage with External Parties: Collaborate with external parties, including vendors, consultants, and design firms, to ensure cohesive and innovative product design.

  • Establishment of Supply Chains and Manufacturing Workflows: Develop and manage efficient supply chains and manufacturing workflows, ensuring timely and cost-effective production.

  • Production Protocols and Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive production protocols and documentation, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • QA Documentation: Contribute to the development and maintenance of quality assurance documentation, ensuring product quality and compliance with relevant regulations.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, including R&D, product management, and quality assurance, to ensure cohesive product development.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute engineering strategies that align with the company's growth and innovation goals.

  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a small but high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BSc or higher degree in Mechatronics, AI & Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or related field.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Python, R, or similar.

  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, etc.) and libraries.

  • Familiarity with machine learning and AI model development

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in with a focus on mechatronic and/or AI systems.

  • Experience with CAD systems is preferred.

  • Proven track record of successfully developing and/or launching complex devices or products.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills.

Other requirements:

  • Candidate must be based in, or willing to relocate to Brisbane, Australia, or nearby areas.

  • Candidate must possess full working rights in Australia at the time of application.
